* Persistent GERD or LPR can lead to other more serious medical problems and should not be ignored. It is important to understand that symptoms associated with GERD and LPR are not typically caused by too much acid in the stomach, rather they are the result of stomach contents abnormally refluxing up into the esophagus, larynx and pharynx. These tissues are very sensitive and easily become inflamed when exposed to stomach contents, often even if there is no acid present. However, determining the proper treatment requires an accurate diagnosis. At North Texas Heartburn & Reflux Center diagnosing acid reflux and GERD is what we do first. All treatments, whether medical or surgical, carry some risks and potential side effects, and any treatment should be supervised by a licensed physician. We recommend you ask your doctor about your specific risks and potential side effects before starting or continuing any treatment for GERD or LPR.
If you answered "Yes" to one or more of the above questions, you may be suffering from GastroEsophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) or LaryngoPharyngeal Reflux (LPR)*
